WHICH BRAKE MEMBERS ARE WEARING?
BRAKE PADS
Friction linked to braking causes significant heat release.
The material of the pads, which is softer than that of the discs, will wear out more quickly.
Worn pads can damage the brake disc.
Maintenance recommendations:
Have the condition of your pads checked (approximately every 10,000 km).
Have them replaced when the thickness is reduced to 2 mm.

BRAKE DISCS
When braking, they are heavily stressed. Their wear can cause vibrations. The maximum braking efficiency depends on their condition.
Maintenance recommendations:
Have them checked each time you change the pads, to check that their thickness respects the dimension established by the Manufacturer.

BRAKE DRUMS
Less stressed than pads, they nevertheless undergo the same constraints.
Maintenance recommendations:
Have the brake drums checked regularly (approximately every 20,000 km). The segments must be replaced as soon as the thickness of the linings is less than 1.5 mm.
BRAKE FLUID
Not only can excessively used fluid cause a loss of braking efficiency, but a leak in the hydraulic system can also become a potential source of failure. A warning light on the dashboard indicates its alert level.
In the event of an abnormal drop in the brake fluid level, consult your PEUGEOT expert without delay.
Maintenance recommendations:
Have your brake fluid changed at least once every 2 years or every 40,000 km or 60,000 km following the date of first entry into service of your vehicle. This is essential.

SIGNS OF WEAR OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM
THE BRAKE PEDAL IS HARD
This may be due to a failure of the brake assist, hydraulic hoses or circuit, wheel cylinders or calipers.
THE BRAKE PEDAL IS SOFT
The pedal sinks into space, you have to “pump” to be able to brake. Be careful, this is a sign of a serious anomaly in the hydraulic system.
THE VEHICLE STEPS WHEN BRAKING
A wheel cylinder or caliper may be seized, or more simply a tire is deflated. Worn shock absorbers can also have the same consequences.
THE VEHICLE VIBRATES WHEN BRAKING
It's probably faulty brake rotors, a loose part, or excessive play in the front or rear axle.
THE VEHICLE “SHUTS” WHEN BRAKING
If the brakes lock at the slightest touch, this may be a sign of a problem with the discs, drums or brake linings.
